One Club!

We are all excited about the possibilities for All In Multisport and its members for this season and beyond! We are a new group of dedicated athletes who like to train, race and socialize together, as well as learn about the sport of triathlon.

We are a group of athletes who bring many things to the table with varying degrees of ability and experiences. We have triathlon first-timers and long time veterans with incredible abilities. We also have an amazing amount of resources from which to pull, and the list of those resources is growing.

We are all on the ground floor of building this new club. We are not yet what we're going to become, although we're off to a great start. What can we look forward to? Many things, including training and racing together, triathlon educational opportunities, instruction from experienced veterans including USAT certified coaches, social gatherings where we can swap stories about our races, tri camps and events to support our triathlon community among other things.

What are the benefits of becoming a club member? In addition to the many things listed above, club membership will also include discounts at local retailers, discounts on endurance nutritional items and a free tech shirt to run in or just wear around town. Now, who doesn't like the words 'free' and 'shirt' in the same sentence?

All In Multisport is officially recognized by USA Triathlon as a registered triathlon club. With that designation comes a certain amount of benefits as well and it gives our club the opportunity to compete on a national level for club championships.

Within the past couple of years Triathlete magazine listed Central Arkansas as one of the best kept secrets in the country as a place to train for triathlons. We say, "welcome to the party" because we've known that for quite some time. It's also a rather large multisport community and we all seem to know each other in one way or another, it's just a matter of pulling a Kevin Bacon and figuring out by how many degrees of separation. Usually it's not many.

There will be much more to come in the near future so stay tuned. In the meantime, if you want to become a part of All In Multisport just click the 'Join The Team' page at the top and follow the process. You can also email us through the 'Contact Us' page.

We are currently in the process of ordering both cycling and tri top jerseys. We are going to place our first order relatively soon. If you want to order and need to find out what size you wear we currently have fit kits at Go! Running (http://www.gorunning.com/ ) in the Heights. Go by there anytime to try these jerseys for size. These fit kit jerseys need to be returned to the manufacturer by February 26th. We'll place our first order soon after.

We look forward to you becoming a member of All in Multisport. Until then, Happy Training!

Floyd Uncut

We all know the story of Floyd Landis. One day in July of 2006 Floyd bonked on a climbing day in the TdF and found himself on the wrong side of 8-minutes for the yellow jersey. The next day, yes, the VERY next day, Landis had maybe the single greatest riding day in the history of the Tour, capturing back that 8-minutues (and then some) to regain the yellow jersey going on to win the Tour de France.

Almost as quickly as he won the jersey questions surfaced, "how did he do that?". The questions persisted. Reporters were relentless. He tested positive for doping. He did what most people do when they test positive...deny, deny, deny. He spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours to prove he wasn't lying. But he was lying. He eventually admitted it. He was stripped of his title.

The link is a revealing interview with Landis. http://nyvelocity.com/content/interviews/2011/landiskimmage

I will warn you, it's similar to War & Peace/Moby Dick in length, so you may have to digest it in bite size chunks. It's word-for-word of a 7 hour interview.

Beware of Mr. Carlyle!

I read this today in the Letters to the Editor section of the Demozette. It made me chuckle so I thought I'd share:

Relocate the Cyclists

A quiet, meditative walk across and around the Big Dam Bridge would be a very pleasant experience if it wasn't for those infernal cyclists who seem to think that they have a greater claim to the pathways than pedestrians.

They are not only a nuisance, with their Spandex pants, body armor and racing helmets, but an acute embarrassment. Just who do they think they are? Pedaling around the banks of the Arkansas River at 15 mph in that ridiculous uniform does not qualify them for the Tour de France.

In the name of humanity, find these clowns another site and, please, as far away from those who enjoy the simple pleasure of walking. There they can indulge their foolish fantasies to their heart's content.

-William G. Carlyle
North Little Rock

So take that you Spandex sporting, body armor boding, acutely embarrassing, Tour de France wannabes...get off the road!

He sure would have carried more credibility had he mentioned Kona. Tour de France?....PPFffff....sheesh, please!

And, hey, don't EVEN get him started on the dog poop issue!

The TIR

OK, I know the 2011 season hasn't even gotten started yet, so is it presumptuous to think about events in 2012? Probably, but I'm layin' it out there anyway. This is the Texas Independence Relay. 203 miles over two days. 40+ segments ranging from 1.15 to 8.8 miles. Teams consist of 8 - 12 runners. It starts on a Saturday morning and ends Sunday afternoon.

This year's event is March 5 - 6. A little too soon to get this thing together. But a year from this March would leave us plenty of time to get one...maybe two AIM teams down there!

Think about it...

Annual Memphis in May Tri

Same time....different location.

This year's Memphis in May Oly is May 22...nothing new. But what is new is the location. Tunica, MS will host the event this year rather than the traditional spot in Millington.

I talked to a couple of the race organizers and they said the accomodations were the primary reason for the switch. At the casino there are plenty of rooms right there on site making it much easier for everyone to stay and play! And if you wanted to race, well, you can do that too!

Registration for the race is open. Now through January 15th the fee is $105. Beginning Jan. 16 it goes up to $135.

Also, rooms at Tunica are just $89/night. Not bad. Throw a couple triathletes in the same room and you're talkin' $30 - $40/night.

Here's a link to the race website where you can check out all the info including the course maps. http://mimtri.racesonline.com/

The process begins again....140.6! Are you ready? Probably not, but will you get ready? Without a doubt.
Let the fun begin!

Ironman Arizona '11 Sign Up

http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?CHECKSSO=0&EVENT_ID=1899275

Above is the link to sign up for Ironman Arizona 2011. Sign up is this coming Monday at 1pm central time (11PST/12 local race site time).

I've read conflicting numbers on the amount of the entry fee. On the link above it states the fee is $575 but the official IMAZ website has it at $625 (crazy either way, right?)

Who's up for a midday ride?

Due to family conflicts, we're going to try a midday ride tomorrow. Roger and I (maybe Matt too) are planning on leaving his house at noon and doing 30-40 miles. If any of you Pulaski county people want to join us without driving down to Roger's house, we can easily adjust the route to be at the church on the corner of Congo and Kanis between 12:30 and 12:40 OR you could leave from there around 11:30 and just ride the rest of the way to Roger's house to start with us from there. If you are coming but not starting from Roger's house, let one of us know so we don't roll-on-by when we get to Congo/Kanis. If you need directions to Roger's house, call him or me.

Congrats to All!!

Congrats to all Tri Arkansas participants. Our group was well represented and performed incredibly well!!

Bird captured 1st in the 30 - 34 age group with a time of 2:24:45. Fantastic Bird, way to go!

Heather finished second in the women's 30 - 34 group coming in at 2:44:30 and Shannon was 4th in the same group finishing at2:53:23.

Roger crossed the line second in the men's 40 - 44 finishing at 2:45:23.

A first, 2 seconds and a 4th. That's what I call bringin' home the hardware folks!

Brick then Breakfast

A fun time was had by all!

The Olympic distance Tri Arkansas is in mid-August. Kevin, Heather, Shannon, Kyle and I got a look at the modified bike course today as we did a bike/run brick at the race site.

The 40k route has plenty of hills to get your legs going....and plenty of downhill to make up the difference. Not too much flat road on this course. The hills start early....there's a nice one right out of transition.

There's also a nice hill on the run too coming out of T2.

OK, let's be honest....when I say 'nice' it's not necessarily a good thing.

It was a good day...mild temperatures for this time of year and it was overcast. A dip in the lake felt GREAT after the run.

Maybe the best part of the morning was the tasty breakfast at Cracker Barrel afterwards

ROLL CALL

The proposed Tri Arkansas brick is scheduled for this Saturday. Who's in?

We can ride the course then run all or any portion of the run course you choose.

The original time to roll was suggested at 6am...I think we can push that to 6:30 and still be good for the day.

Let's get a head count.

Ride The Course

Kicking around the idea of going to Arkadelphia Saturday July 10 early, early to ride the TriArkansas course and run a portion, if not all, of the run course. Any takers?

You may or may not be planning to do this race. Regardless, it would be a good, tough, leg-busting, lung-popping workout. What's not to like about that?

Click the link to view the course map, which does not do it justice, BTW.

http://www.dltmultisport.com/images/MAPS/triathlon_triarkansasbike.pdf

Thinking about meeting in that parking lot and rolling at 6a. The time is certainly negotiable.

What say you?

TT Update

Steve Shepherd told me when I was signing up for the Arkansas State Time Trial event Saturday at Chainwheel that if I didn't throw up over my aerobars while crossing the finish line I didn't go hard enough! Well, I didn't throw up...but I was hurtin'!

Now I certainly had no grand illusions of winning this thing by any stretch. I just wanted to race in a stand alone time trial event to see what would happen. As I look back now I can say it was fun and I surprised myself a little.

It was a 40k but by my Polar watch the course was more than that (watch may be off a smidgen, but when it is it's usually on the short side). I thought the wind was a little in my face until I made the turn-around and headed back in...It was truly a sturdy headwind at that point. That was a mental kick in the pants!

Racers went off at :30 second intervals. I got passed about 5-minutes into my ride. Dang! In all I got passed by 5 people and I passed 3.

I have no idea where I finished because as of this post the results weren't out and I couldn't stay at the race site....had to get to church but I will tell you that I will be well down the list! But my trusty Polar watch had me at 1:08:21 for a 22.4 mph average with an average cadence of 105. I gotta say I was a little surprised. It's the fastest I've ever covered that distance.

Now if I could just do that and then get off and run with any efficiency I might actually be somebody!

TT Update Post

If you're interested in the Time Trial event and haven't registered yet you can do so up to 5pm Saturday 6/26 at Chainwheel. I don't believe you can register on-line any longer.

Also you have to have a USAC license to participate. Like USAT, you can purchase a one-day license if you don't want to spend the $60 for an annual membership. I believe the one-day license is $10 and can be purchased at Chainwheel while you register.
