Annual Memphis in May Tri

Same time....different location.

This year's Memphis in May Oly is May 22...nothing new. But what is new is the location. Tunica, MS will host the event this year rather than the traditional spot in Millington.

I talked to a couple of the race organizers and they said the accomodations were the primary reason for the switch. At the casino there are plenty of rooms right there on site making it much easier for everyone to stay and play! And if you wanted to race, well, you can do that too!

Registration for the race is open. Now through January 15th the fee is $105. Beginning Jan. 16 it goes up to $135.

Also, rooms at Tunica are just $89/night. Not bad. Throw a couple triathletes in the same room and you're talkin' $30 - $40/night.

Here's a link to the race website where you can check out all the info including the course maps. http://mimtri.racesonline.com/

IMAZ '11

So, here's what's up best I can tell. Trey, Bird, Roger and I are in for IMAZ '11. Am I missing anyone? Hope not....but then again, I hope so because I'd love for more people to have joined in.
The process begins again....140.6! Are you ready? Probably not, but will you get ready? Without a doubt.
Let the fun begin!

Ironman Arizona '11 Sign Up

http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?CHECKSSO=0&EVENT_ID=1899275

Above is the link to sign up for Ironman Arizona 2011. Sign up is this coming Monday at 1pm central time (11PST/12 local race site time).

I've read conflicting numbers on the amount of the entry fee. On the link above it states the fee is $575 but the official IMAZ website has it at $625 (crazy either way, right?)

Who's up for a midday ride?

Due to family conflicts, we're going to try a midday ride tomorrow. Roger and I (maybe Matt too) are planning on leaving his house at noon and doing 30-40 miles. If any of you Pulaski county people want to join us without driving down to Roger's house, we can easily adjust the route to be at the church on the corner of Congo and Kanis between 12:30 and 12:40 OR you could leave from there around 11:30 and just ride the rest of the way to Roger's house to start with us from there. If you are coming but not starting from Roger's house, let one of us know so we don't roll-on-by when we get to Congo/Kanis. If you need directions to Roger's house, call him or me.

Congrats to All!!

Congrats to all Tri Arkansas participants. Our group was well represented and performed incredibly well!!

Bird captured 1st in the 30 - 34 age group with a time of 2:24:45. Fantastic Bird, way to go!

Heather finished second in the women's 30 - 34 group coming in at 2:44:30 and Shannon was 4th in the same group finishing at2:53:23.

Roger crossed the line second in the men's 40 - 44 finishing at 2:45:23.

A first, 2 seconds and a 4th. That's what I call bringin' home the hardware folks!

Brick then Breakfast

A fun time was had by all!

The Olympic distance Tri Arkansas is in mid-August. Kevin, Heather, Shannon, Kyle and I got a look at the modified bike course today as we did a bike/run brick at the race site.

The 40k route has plenty of hills to get your legs going....and plenty of downhill to make up the difference. Not too much flat road on this course. The hills start early....there's a nice one right out of transition.

There's also a nice hill on the run too coming out of T2.

OK, let's be honest....when I say 'nice' it's not necessarily a good thing.

It was a good day...mild temperatures for this time of year and it was overcast. A dip in the lake felt GREAT after the run.

Maybe the best part of the morning was the tasty breakfast at Cracker Barrel afterwards

ROLL CALL

The proposed Tri Arkansas brick is scheduled for this Saturday. Who's in?

We can ride the course then run all or any portion of the run course you choose.

The original time to roll was suggested at 6am...I think we can push that to 6:30 and still be good for the day.

Let's get a head count.

Ride The Course

Kicking around the idea of going to Arkadelphia Saturday July 10 early, early to ride the TriArkansas course and run a portion, if not all, of the run course. Any takers?

You may or may not be planning to do this race. Regardless, it would be a good, tough, leg-busting, lung-popping workout. What's not to like about that?

Click the link to view the course map, which does not do it justice, BTW.

Thinking about meeting in that parking lot and rolling at 6a. The time is certainly negotiable.

What say you?

TT Update

Steve Shepherd told me when I was signing up for the Arkansas State Time Trial event Saturday at Chainwheel that if I didn't throw up over my aerobars while crossing the finish line I didn't go hard enough! Well, I didn't throw up...but I was hurtin'!

Now I certainly had no grand illusions of winning this thing by any stretch. I just wanted to race in a stand alone time trial event to see what would happen. As I look back now I can say it was fun and I surprised myself a little.

It was a 40k but by my Polar watch the course was more than that (watch may be off a smidgen, but when it is it's usually on the short side). I thought the wind was a little in my face until I made the turn-around and headed back in...It was truly a sturdy headwind at that point. That was a mental kick in the pants!

Racers went off at :30 second intervals. I got passed about 5-minutes into my ride. Dang! In all I got passed by 5 people and I passed 3.

I have no idea where I finished because as of this post the results weren't out and I couldn't stay at the race site....had to get to church but I will tell you that I will be well down the list! But my trusty Polar watch had me at 1:08:21 for a 22.4 mph average with an average cadence of 105. I gotta say I was a little surprised. It's the fastest I've ever covered that distance.

Now if I could just do that and then get off and run with any efficiency I might actually be somebody!

TT Update Post

If you're interested in the Time Trial event and haven't registered yet you can do so up to 5pm Saturday 6/26 at Chainwheel. I don't believe you can register on-line any longer.

Also you have to have a USAC license to participate. Like USAT, you can purchase a one-day license if you don't want to spend the $60 for an annual membership. I believe the one-day license is $10 and can be purchased at Chainwheel while you register.

Tri Season 2010

It seems like it's been asked before, but what races are you planning this season?

Here's some I'm considering:

  • Memphis In May* (May 23rd)

  • Route 66 Olympic (El Reno, OK - June 6th)

  • Tri Arkansas (Arkadelphia, AR - Aug 14th)

  • Toad Suck 33 (Conway, AR - Sept 11th)

  • Age Group Nationals (Tuscaloosa, AL - Sept 25th pending qualification)

*already signed up

With (hopefully) another Ironman registration looming this summer, I'll probably only do 3 of these.

Checking In

Just checking in to stir it up a little. Seeing who's out there. And who still checks the site.

Are you working out? What are your near-term plans?

Who's racing MiM? If so, have you signed up? I'm in....and I'm pretty sure Trey is too.

Anyone doing an Ironman this year? What about a half?

Who's doing LR, either the half or full?
